Students are aged 16-19 and are in years 12-14 The Key stage 5 curriculum has the following elements:-

  • Discrete functional literacy and numeracy lessons with opportunities for functional literacy and numeracy are also embedded across the curriculum
  • Skills for Life features heavily in the Post 16 Curriculum to give opportunities for our students to move into adulthood with the required skills.
  • Enterprise education is offered to students in post 16. This allows for students to begin to experience work and begin acquiring employability skills.
  • PE is offered to students and our successful partnerships with two local sixth form colleges enables students to develop skills for working alongside others, teamwork, listening and following instructions in an off site provision.
  • Some of our students are working with The Herbert Art Gallery in Coventry on a Creative Media Course leading to Arts Award Accreditation.

For those students for whom it is more appropriate an alternative programme is offered based around

  • Cognitive development
  • Communicative development
  • Physical, motor and sensory development
  • Emotional and social development.

For these students experiential learning opportunities are offered in a personalised way. Accreditation is through ASDAN Personal Progress and Diploma in Life Skills as well as OCR Functional Maths and English. Some students have access to a two week work experience placement in the local area. Some students are offered extended work placements as a result of this initial work experience. The curriculum is currently based on a themed curriculum but this is being developed for 2015-2016. We are currently working with National Grid in Hinckley and are part of the supported Internship Programme. Three of our students are currently on a 12 month internship programme to develop skills for employment as well as following a BTEC qualification at level 1 or Entry Level 3. Students in Post 16 are offered the opportunity to take part in a residential trip to Dukes Barn in Derbyshire on a rolling programme.

Students have the opportunity to access work experience and this is offered through a personalised curriculum. Some students will do a block of work experience, but more recently students are taking part in extended placements for one day per week.
